The Lost Generation / Part II These are portraits of children based on old family photographs found in the Yad Vashem archives, among thousands of pictures donated after the War. Many pictures survived, most of the people did not. I can’t make peace with their sad faces. Their reality, as it was known before the War, has vanished. The feeling of Zeitgeist haunts me all over again. That is why I paint children from that vanished world. They look at us from the paintings intensely as I am trying to bring them back to life. If I had been born two generations before, I would have been one of them. The School Girls
